Broker, Credit Union Choose MShift

(November 14, 2000) In separate deals, JB Oxford & Co. and Patelco Credit Union have chosen MShift Inc.'s MobileShift Toolkit technology to provide wireless services to their respective online brokerage and online banking customers.

JB Oxford's new platform-independent wireless trading interface will allow its customers to access their online accounts from any Web-enabled device. Mobile clients will be able to place trades, access real-time quotes and review account information remotely, regardless of network carrier or type of wireless device they desire.

San Jose, Calif.-based MShift's MobileShift Toolkit provides a "highly automated" process for "mobilizing" Web data. The technology enables engineers to identify the most appropriate mobile-sensitive data and prepare it for delivery to any wireless service. Using MShift, companies like JB Oxford can translate Web data from any standard protocol, into almost any language, for use on any type of wireless device, with no programming required. JB Oxford's wireless Web site, available at no cost to JB Oxford clients, allows remote users to access a menu-driven interface. The site features online trading, stock screening and portfolio tracking tools, as well as market commentary and research.

San Francisco-based Patelco's eAccess service presents a variety of automated channels--including telephone and Internet--to access member accounts. The new wireless service, which will be rolled out by the end of November, will allow members to use Web-enabled phones, palmtop computers and other devices to remotely and securely access account information and bill paying services. MobileShift Toolkit functions as an intermediary between the Patelco site and Patelco members. Besides processing data, the toolkit also manages protocols and translates and delivers data securely to multiple mobile devices.
