Union Turns to MShift to Deliver Wireless Access to Members
Patelco
Credit Union Leverages MShift Platform to Offer Remote Access
to Accounts, Bill Payment Services
San Jose, California, November 13, 2000-MShift, Inc., a
leading provider of wireless development tools for the corporate
environment, announced today that it has signed a deal with
Patelco Credit Union to provide Wireless access services
to the financial institution's membership base.
With
$1.9 billion in assets, San Francisco-based Patelco is the
fourth-largest credit union in California and the 12th largest
in the nation. The credit union's eAccess service presents
a wide variety of automated access channels to accounts,
including telephone and PC-based access channels. "The future
of banking lies in remote access, and increasingly, that
means wireless," said John Shields, Senior Vice President
of E-Business at Patelco. "With MShift's help, we are now
able to offer our members easy access to account information
from their Web-enabled cell phone, PDA or other wireless
access device.
"The
new wireless service, which will be rolled out by the end
of November, will allow members to use Web-enabled phones,
palmtop computers and other devices to remotely and securely
access account information and bill paying services.
"Our
eAccess services have brought unprecedented convenience
to our members, and have dramatically changed the way they
interact with us," said Shields. "Adding wireless to eAccess
is the obvious next step, and MShift was the obvious choice
in helping us roll out this technology."
"The
mobile Internet is one of the fastest-growing segments of
technology today," said Scott Moeller, CEO of MShift. "We
are particularly pleased to have a forward-looking financial
institution like Patelco taking advantage of our solution.
More and more, financial institutions are finding it necessary
to expand their use of technology to become the primary
source of financial information and applications for their
clients or members. Once again, Patelco takes the lead in
this respect."
Patelco
made use of MShift's MobileShift Toolkit technology,
the first complete foundation that allows companies to quickly
and easily design their own wireless applications. "It was
a painless process. From conception to deployment was only
about six to eight weeks," said Shields. MobileShift
Toolkit functions as an intermediary between the Patelco
site and Patelco members. Besides processing data on the
fly, the toolkit also manages protocols, and translates
and delivers data securely to multiple mobile devices.
MShift
is the first to provide new entrants into the wireless market
with a full-featured development environment, by which Mobile
Internet applications can be developed for any Internet
enabled Mobile device. MShift allows companies to translate
Web data from any standard protocol, and in almost any language,
for use on any type of wireless device, from phones to pagers
to PDAs, anywhere in the world-with no programming required.
